Actually, considering the increasing use of handsets, the latter are very exposed to getting infected. I bet that at least one you wanted to <\/span><b>know how to tell if your phone has a virus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, after downloading an app from a shady source or visiting who-knows-what-website!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all, Smartphones are almost always connected to the internet, so it stands to reason that they can be hacked remotely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re in a similar situation now, then you\u2019re in the perfect place. Today we\u2019re talking about what actually is a smartphone virus, how can you spot one on your smartphone and, probably even more important, <\/span><b>how to get rid of it<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s the difference between a computer virus and a mobile virus?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First thing first, we need to make a couple of things clear. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A computer virus is actually a type of malicious software program &#8211; also known as malware &#8211; that replicates itself, by modifying other programs and inserting its own code, when executed. As for the most common types of viruses, we can mention worms, ransomware, spyware, adware, trojans and so on. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to smartphones, there are fewer types of viruses available. Specifically, we\u2019re talking about <\/span><b>expanders, worms, trojans and spyware<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, all of them with different effects on your phone. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All these <\/span><b>cause the collapse of the system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and leads to loss or leakage of confidential information stored on your phone. Some \u2018famous viruses\u2019 did way more than this, but this is a different story. Now I guess you want to know what each of these can do to your phones, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How can a virus affect my phone?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t worry, it won\u2019t blow up, but using it can become pretty annoying with a virus on board. And if you received your phone from your parents, they will look not-so-friendly at you!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, as mentioned above, we have three main types of viruses, all of them with their own effects, as it follows: <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expanders<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main purpose of a virus like this is to <\/span><b>generate additional phone billing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and profit. If you see that your bill skyrocketed and you don\u2019t know why it\u2019s probably because one of these bad guys. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Be very careful with the text messages you receive from unknown numbers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newshub.co.nz\/home\/new-zealand\/2017\/04\/had-calls-from-a-weird-overseas-number-lately-here-s-why.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">calls from unknown numbers from other countries<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The latter is a very common practice lately!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Worms<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Things can get worse if you get a word, as they are looking forward to endlessly reproduce and eventually spread to other devices. They also contain harmful instructions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>You can get a worm via text message or MMS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but the worst part is that they don\u2019t require user interaction for execution. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trojans<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you get one of these, it\u2019s all your fault. Trojans <\/span><b>are hidden into apparently attractive and non-malicious apps<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which are downloaded on the device and execute by the phone\u2019s owner. Once this is done, the malware starts infection and deactivating apps or even the phone. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spyware<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe the most common type of mobile virus, spyware, <\/span><b>collects, uses, then spreads all the personal information on your phone to remote servers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spyware is also split into four categories itself: system monitors, trojans, adware, and tracking cookies. In order to avoid it, be very careful to the permissions of the apps you <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.makeuseof.com\/tag\/safe-install-android-apps-unknown-sources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">install from other sources than Google Play<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or from wherever you\u2019re getting them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the years, there were various types of malware affecting phones, but there\u2019s still the big question that remains unanswered. Next, we\u2019re going to talk about how to tell if your phone has a virus.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to check your phone for viruses?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortunately, you don\u2019t need a full phone virus scan in order to detect that you have some nasty stuff on it. Compare this to the previous months and see if there are any spikes, even though you haven\u2019t done anything special. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usually,<\/span><b> this happens when you get adware<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as the virus performs clicks in the background, in order to generate profit. As you probably guessed, this requires additional bandwidth, hence the increased consumption. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your phone generates additional charges<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another sign of an infected phone is the additional charges on your bill, under the SMS category. This <\/span><b>is caused by malware that sends text messages to premium numbers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your battery is draining way too fast<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sure, there\u2019s no such thing as a perfect smartphone battery life, but having <\/span><b>nasty stuff on your phone can drain it ridiculously fast<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Hey, you can compare this with your body: dealing with a virus can leave your completely exhausted. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have unwanted apps on your phone<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A lot of type of malware apps is known for <\/span><b>automatically downloading malicious apps without asking your permission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Trojans, for example, can install an app on your phone, making it look very familiar. If you don\u2019t remember downloading it, delete it immediately. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You get a lot of pop-ups while browsing<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nowadays, a lot of websites have pop-ups, but if you start seeing them constantly until they become very annoying, it\u2019s obvious that you\u2019re dealing with a virus. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No matter how annoying they are, <\/span><b>never click on them, since this can make things even worse<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Carry on just a bit more, since you can actually get rid of these. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your phone is constantly crashing<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though it\u2019s the last entry in this section, it should\u2019ve been the first one. If this never used to happen, but now, all of a sudden, <\/span><b>if it happens very often, it\u2019s obvious that you\u2019ve caught a virus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to remove a virus from my phone?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s no need to panic since there are a couple of steps you can follow in order to restore your phone to its initial, virus-free state.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 1: Boot your phone into Safe Mode<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long press your phone\u2019s power button and you should see the power menu, with the Power off and Restart options. Long press it again and you will get the option to reboot in safe mode. For this, go to Settings &gt; Application Manager and tap the Downloaded apps section. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In most cases, the virus is a third-party app, so look at what you\u2019ve downloaded over there and see if there\u2019s anything suspicious. Notice that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your phone may have other types of malicious software but technically these are not viruses.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 3: Uninstall the suspicious app<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After detecting the app causing issues, it\u2019s time to remove it. Tap on it and you will see the \u201cUninstall the app\u201d option. Since you are in Safe Mode, you will be required to enter your credentials, then uninstall the app. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other side, you might be dealing with a pretty stubborn virus which doesn\u2019t want to go at all. This happens because it has achieved \u201cDevice Administrator Status\u201d. But this can be solved as well, by going on with the next step.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 4: Remove the Device Administrator Status of the virused app<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go to Settings &gt; Security &gt; Device Administrator. Here, you will see all the apps with this status. Simply look for the app and uncheck the box which grants it this status. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After fixing this, go back to the Application Manager and repeat Step 3. When you\u2019re all done, get out of the Safe Mode, by restarting your device.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, we cannot forget about anti-virus app. The idea is that they\u2019re not that efficient in keeping mobile malware away from your phone\u2026 Still, if you want to keep one in your storage just for its additional features, we\u2019re highly recommending BitDefender! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personally, I always delete or disable the antivirus. There is no need for it unless you download apps from real shady websites.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can iPhones get viruses?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">iOS owners have all the reasons to be happy since their smartphones (or tablets) are safe when it comes to mobile malware since the operating system \u00a0But if they have jailbroken devices, things change a bit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11062 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/iphone-virus.png\" alt=\"iPhone virus\" width=\"690\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/iphone-virus.png 690w, https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/iphone-virus-150x74.png 150w, https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/iphone-virus-300x148.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you notice that your phone is acting weird and you suspect a virus, brought by an app from a third-party app store, there\u2019s something you can do: <\/span><b>restore it<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start with backing up all your stuff in iCloud, then go to Settings &gt; General &gt; Reset. Choose the \u201cErase All Content and Settings\u201d which will delete all the data from your phone. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After doing this, you can restart it and set up everything from scratch, followed by restoring your backed up data. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wrap-up<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, is it everything clear now?
