There are actually a few reasons why this is happening, but, fortunately, a couple of solutions as well, starting with basic steps. Depending on the cause of this problem, you can also try a few more complex solutions. The idea is that there\u2019s a fix for everything, in most cases. <\/span><\/p>\n

How to test the sound on your Android phone<\/span><\/h2>\n

If none of the above seem to fix your problem, it could be a hardware issue. But you need to be absolutely sure that this is causing it, before taking it to a service and get it fixed. <\/span><\/p>\n

Specifically, we\u2019re talking about using the Device Diagnostic Tool and test the speaker on your phone, by following these steps: <\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Dial *#7353#* to enter the Device Diagnostic Tool menu<\/span><\/li>\n
  • From the menu, tap Speaker, in order to test the external speaker. If you hear some loud music coming from your phone, it means that the speaker itself is working fine. If not, it means that it\u2019s indeed a hardware problem causing this<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Tap on Melody, in order to test the internal speaker. If you hear music coming from the earpiece, it means that it works well. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    If the phone passes these test, you can proceed to the next instructions.<\/span><\/p>\n

    How to fix sound issues on an Android phone<\/span><\/h2>\n

    First thing first, you should know that there a few basic solutions you can try, just to make sure that it\u2019s not a hardware issue causing this: <\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Check the phone\u2019s volume<\/b>: Simply press the volume rocker up, in order to increase the volume. Maybe the phone was on silent, which affected the media volume as well.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Restart your phone<\/b>: A simple reboot can be the solution for many problems.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Clean the headphone jack<\/b>: If you\u2019re having this issue only when the headphones are plugged in, try cleaning the jack. Also, try another pair of headphones, since it could be them causing the problem.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Clean the speakers: <\/b>There some smartphones which have some pretty unusual grills for the speakers and they tend to accumulate a lot of stuff which eventually blocks the speakers from emitting sound. However, don\u2019t use a needle or a toothpick, since this can instantly damage the speaker. Instead, rely on a Q-tip for this.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Clean the cache of your music app<\/b>: Go to Settings > Apps and look for your default music app, then tap on it. Look for the Clean cache button and tap on it. <\/span><\/li>\n
    • Check for any moisture or water-inflicted damage<\/b>: Turn off the phone, remove the battery, as well as the SIM and memory card, and see if there\u2019s any moisture or residue inside the phone, which can affect its normal functionality. Eventually, by using the dryer on low heat, keep it for a few seconds over the phone.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      How to fix common sound issues on an Android phone<\/span><\/h2>\n

      There are some relatively common sound issues among Android owners when the phone starts behaving strange all of a sudden. But again, the good part is that there are fixes for these situations as well. <\/span><\/p>\n

      Specifically, we\u2019re talking about the following: <\/span><\/p>\n

      The phone shows that the headphones are plugged in, but they aren\u2019t<\/b><\/h4>\n

      In this case, the explanation is simple: your phone is stuck in headphone mode. Even though they are removed, the icon won\u2019t disappear and you can\u2019t hear sound from the speaker. <\/span><\/p>\n

      If this is the issue you\u2019re dealing with, you can following the tips presented above, in the sound issues section. <\/span><\/p>\n

      The phone goes on Mute automatically<\/b><\/h4>\n

      This usually happens when you are making a call, so you need to hang up and call back. In most cases, it\u2019s because some third-party apps or outdated cache memory are messing up the system. For this, there are two different things you can try: <\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      • Put the phone into Safe Mode<\/strong>: Turn off the device, then press and hold the Power Key, until you see the Samsung logo.
        \n<\/span>Hold the volume down key until the lock screen displays, as this will boot the phone into Safe mode and all third-party apps will be disabled.
        \n<\/span>After powering the phone in this mode, try making a call and see if the issue repeats. If it doesn\u2019t, you need to find the faulty app causing it and remove it.<\/span><\/span> <\/li>\n
      • Clear the cache partition in Recovery Mode<\/strong>: Turn off the phone, then press and hold Volume Up + Home key + Power Key. When you see the Recovery Mode menu, release the keys. <\/span>Using the volume rocker, choose the Wipe Cache Partition option, then confirm with the Power key. When you\u2019re done wiping, select Reboot system now and restart the device. The problem should be gone by now. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        There\u2019s no sound when you connect to a Bluetooth speaker or handset<\/b><\/h4>\n

        A<\/span>nother situation in which you have no sound on your Android phone could be when you connect it to a Bluetooth speaker or handset. In most cases, this can be caused by a pairing issue, so just make sure if the process was successful, by going to Settings > Bluetooth. You should see a list of the paired devices, including the speaker or handset. <\/span><\/p>\n

        If the device you\u2019ve paired with the phone appears on the list but still doesn\u2019t work, try connecting it to another phone and see if it works.<\/span><\/p>\n

        What should I do if none of these methods work?<\/span><\/h2>\n

        Obviously, if you can\u2019t fix the problem all by yourself, it\u2019s highly recommended to take the phone to a service or your carrier, if it\u2019s still covered by warranty. Most likely, you have a hardware issue, meaning that you need to have the speaker replaced.<\/span><\/p>\n
