We know, it was one of the top flagships on the market when it was released, but this doesn\u2019t mean that the Samsung Galaxy S5 didn\u2019t have any problems. On the contrary, it was actually one of the most problematic high-end models ever released by Samsung. Well, except the Galaxy Note 7, of course. <\/span><\/p>\n

One of the most common issues was that the Samsung Galaxy S5 screen wasn\u2019t turning on. And this happened while the other features, like ringing or vibrating, were working properly. <\/span><\/p>\n

If you are using one and having problems with the display, you\u2019re in luck. We\u2019ve put together a list with some tips you can use and see if things are back to normal. <\/span><\/p>\n

See if it\u2019s powered on<\/span><\/h2>\n

It sounds a bit funny, but some people claimed that the screen wasn\u2019t working and they were advised to see if there\u2019s any battery left on the phone. We\u2019ll let you guess if they had any. <\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, check if the phone is actually powered on. If it looks like it is, but the screen won\u2019t turn on, keep the Power Button and the Home key for a few seconds until you feel a short vibration. <\/span><\/p>\n

This will perform a Soft Reset on the phone, simulating a battery removal. The phone should work normal now. <\/span><\/p>\n

Remove the battery<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Galaxy S5 was the last Samsung flagship to feature a removable battery, so take advantage of this. <\/span><\/p>\n

If the screen does not come back after trying the previous tip, then remove the back cover and take out the battery. Wait for a few seconds, then put it back again in the phone and see if the problem is solved. <\/span><\/p>\n

See if Dark Screen is enabled<\/span><\/h2>\n

If the previous method doesn\u2019t work in your case, you should see if the Dark screen option is turned off or on. Obviously, if it\u2019s on, your screen will be completely dark and you won\u2019t be able to use it properly. <\/span><\/p>\n

Since the screen won\u2019t turn on, the only solution remains to connect your phone to a TV or PC monitor, using an HDMI cable, then follow his path: Settings > Accessibility > Vision > Dark screen. Check the microSD card<\/span><\/h2>\n

Sometimes, a corrupted microSD card can cause such issues. If you\u2019re suspecting yours, remove it for some time and see if it makes any difference. <\/span><\/p>\n

Boot the phone in Safe Mode<\/span><\/h2>\n

If it\u2019s not the SD card, it could be an app, especially if you have the habit of downloading apps from unknown sources, rather than the Play Store. <\/span><\/p>\n

In such case, our recommendation is to find the faulty app and delete it. However, first you need to make sure that this is the reason why your Samsung Galaxy S5 screen won\u2019t turn on, so start with booting the phone in Safe Mode, by following these steps: <\/span><\/p>\n

  • Turn off the phone, by removing the battery<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Put the battery back in the phone<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Press and hold the Power Button for a few seconds, until the device starts powering on<\/span><\/li>\n
  • When you see the Samsung logo, press and hold the Volume Down key, until the lock screen of the phone shows<\/span><\/li>\n
  • You should now see Safe Mode written in the lower-left corner of the screen<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Now that you\u2019ve entered safe mode, you\u2019re not running any third-party apps or services. Use your phone for a few moments like this and see if the screen will turn on after locking the screen, for example. If it doesn\u2019t, it means that an app was causing the trouble. Start deleting any suspicious app and see if the issue reappears while using the phone in normal mode. <\/span><\/p>\n

    On the other side, if the Samsung Galaxy S5 screen still acts weird, it\u2019s definitely not an app causing everything.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Wipe the Cache Partition<\/span><\/h2>\n

    Another thing you can try in order to solve your phone\u2019s screen issues is wiping the Cache Partition. This is done by following these steps:<\/span><\/p>\n

    • Turn off the phone, by removing the battery<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Put the battery back in the phone<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Press and hold the Power Button, Home Button, and Volume Up key at the same time<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Release all buttons when you see the Samsung logo, as well as \u201cRecovery booting\u201d written at the top of the screen. This means that you entered Android System Recovery<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Using the volume rocker, select Wipe Cache Partition<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Use the Power Button to confirm your action<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Wait for a few moments, until the wiping is done. You should see a notification written in yellow, saying that the system cache has been removed<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Select Reboot System Now, using the Volume Key<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Hit the Power Button to confirm<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Wait until the phone reboots<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Perform a Factory Reset<\/span><\/h2>\n

      If none of the above manage to solve your problem, you can still try something: a factory reset. Still, be aware of the fact that this will completely wipe the data on your phone, so a backup is highly recommended. Go to Settings > General > Backup & Reset and make sure all the settings you want to save are checked. <\/span><\/p>\n

      Once you are done backing up your data, follow these steps in order to perform the reset: <\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      • Turn off the device<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Hold the Home Button, Power Button, and Volume Up key pressed for a few seconds, until you see the Android logo on the screen<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Release the buttons<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Use the Volume Down key to highlight the Factory Reset Option<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Confirm your selection with the Power Button<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Select \u2018Delete all user data\u2019 and confirm the selection<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Wait for a few seconds, until the \u2018Reboot system now\u2019 option appears, then select it<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Wait until your phone is restarted to factory settings<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Use the phone for a while and see if the screen will turn on properly this time. <\/span><\/p>\n

        If none of these methods can solve your problem and the Samsung Galaxy S5 screen is still acting weird, it\u2019s highly recommended to take it to an authorized service center. They will investigate it carefully and see if it\u2019s a hardware or software issue creating this situation. <\/span><\/p>\n
