{"id":707,"date":"2016-07-07T16:39:15","date_gmt":"2016-07-07T13:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unlockscope.com\/help\/?post_type=post&#038;p=707"},"modified":"2017-12-08T19:03:20","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T16:03:20","slug":"14-digit-imei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/14-digit-imei\/","title":{"rendered":"14 Digit IMEI"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><\/h1>\n<h1><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9491\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/14imei-1024x541.png\" alt=\"14-digits-imei\" width=\"1024\" height=\"541\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/14imei-1024x541.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/14imei-150x79.png 150w, https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/14imei-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/14imei-768x406.png 768w, https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/14imei-1100x580.png 1100w, https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/14imei.png 1250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/h1>\n<h2>What does it mean when your phone&#8217;s IMEI has only 14 digits?<\/h2>\n<p>The first thing you need to be sure of\u00a0is that\u00a0<strong>all<\/strong> Mobile Phones have a <strong>15 digit IMEI<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In order to find out the IMEI number of your handset you have several options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dial <strong>*#06#<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Check the<strong> label underneath your phone&#8217;s battery<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Access the <strong>Settings Menu &#8211; About Device<\/strong> (may differ depending on the brand of your phone)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If any of these methods return a 14 digit IMEI it usually means that your phone has only\u00a0<strong>CDMA capability\u00a0<\/strong>or your phone has both <strong>CDMA and GSM capabilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Phone is only CDMA capable<\/h2>\n<p>All the devices that have been bought from a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unlockunit.com\/blog\/cdma-networks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CDMA Network Provider<\/strong><\/a> will only show a 14 digit IMEI<\/span>, that is actually the <strong>MEID<\/strong> <strong>(Mobile Equipment Identifier)<\/strong> through which the phone is recognized as being used within the CDMA Network and through which the Phone Signal is delivered.<\/p>\n<p>If you find yourself in this situation, you won&#8217;t be able to unlock your phone without permission from the network provider that originally sold you the device.<\/p>\n<h2>Phone has both CDMA and GSM capabilities<\/h2>\n<p>This situation is a bit tricky. I&#8217;ll tell you why:<\/p>\n<p>Devices that have both <strong>CDMA and GSM capabilities<\/strong> will show a <strong>14 digit IMEI<\/strong> only when a <strong>CDMA SIM card<\/strong> is inserted into the phone.<\/p>\n<p>So, if you still have the <strong>CDMA SIM card<\/strong> inserted and you dial <strong>*#06# <\/strong>you will most certainly get a 14 digit IMEI number.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to unlock such a device, you may have noticed that <strong>all<\/strong> the <strong>remote unlocking websites<\/strong> will ask for the <strong>first 15 digits of your IMEI<\/strong> number. This may be a little difficult for you to provide since your phone is currently displaying only the <strong>14 digit IMEI<\/strong> but rest assured there is a workaround available:<\/p>\n<h2>The 15th digit can be found or generated through two methods<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Insert a <strong>GSM SIM card <\/strong>(AT&amp;T, T-Mobile, Rogers etc.) into the phone and dial the <strong>*#06#<\/strong> sequence once more.
