How to check if your Samsung is Network Locked

samsung is network locked

Your Samsung is network locked?

The network lock is a type of lock used by network providers (like Vodafone, AT&T etc) to restrict the use of phones only to their network. So, you are not able to use a SIM card from a different carrier (in your country or when traveling abroad). When trying to use a SIM card from a different carrier your phone will require a network unlock code.

Unlock your Samsung

The easiest way to check if your phone is network locked is by inserting a SIM card from a carrier different than the carrier you originally bought your phone from. If your phone reads one of the following messages, then it’s network locked:

  • “SIM Network Unlock PIN”
  • “Enter Network Lock Control Key”
  • “Network Locked”

Another method to check if your Samsung is network locked is by dialing *#7465625#. A menu will be displayed that will resemble the following:

[ ] Network lock

[ ] Subset  lock

[ ] SP lock

When all lock levels on this menu are OFF, then your phone is unlocked. Having Network Lock ON means that your phone is network locked. If Subset lock is ON then your phone needs a provider unlock code. If SP lock is ON then your Samsung needs a service provider unlock code. We will provide you all these unlock codes.

Unfortunately, this method (*#7465625#) does not work on all Samsung phones. It actually depends on the Android version you have installed on your phone. For some Android versions, when dialing *#7465625# you’ll only get the message “Connection problem or invalid MMI code”.

  • I think your site is the easiest to use. In just one day I received the unlock code for my s8.
    Thank you..

    • Hello.
You could go to a GSM service to unlock your phone. They may have that model in their unlock list.

  • I recently bought an unlocked Galaxy S8 from Samsung store in Canada. The salesman told me it was unlocked. As soon as I inserted my Rogers SIM card I tried to call and it told me I did not have a SIM card inserted. What should I do?

    • Adanna.
The best option is to go back with the phone to the Samsung Store to make some checks. It may have some manufacturing failure, or simply the phone is Network Locked.
To unlock it you can use the link:
Just select the Network where the phone is currently locked to, and we’ll send you the unlock code.
      Have a nice day!

In the shortest time we will send you the code to unlock your phone.

  • I use a s3 for some time that has the version of android 4.3 jelly bean. How can I update it to 4.4 kitkat?

    • Hi Chidiebere.
If the phone can not be updated using the classic method, accessing the settings and then software update, I do not recommend you to do it or use a ROM.
Using this method, the unlock codes will no longer work.

      All the best!

    • Hi. We apologize, but this tablet model is not available on our list.
To unlock this tablet model, you can go to an authorized gsm service.

  • I have been using a Samsung s2 for some time and I’ve been trying to call * # 7465625 # to check if the phone is locked but it does not work. Why?

    • Hello.
If you receive a message like “Connection problem or invalid MMI code” means that the Android version of the phone is an old one that does not allow to realise this step.
Another method to check if your phone is locked or not is by inserting a SIM card from a carrier other than the carrier you originally bought your phone from.
If you see a message like: “SIM Network Unlock PIN”, “Enter Network Lock Control Key” or “Network Locked” means that your phone is locked.

    • Hi Marian.
Yes, your phone is on the list of available phone models to be unlocked. You can do this by going to and by completing the model of the phone, the network in which the phone is locked and the email address to send you the unlock code.
      All the best!

I recommend you to go with the card to an authorized gsm service to cut the card. If you do this alone you can damage the card and it will stop working on the phone.

  • Hi, I’m asking for help. I just got a new Samsung S8. (smg950F). I’m unable to use my sim card. As the phone starts I get this “SIM network PIN blocked. Enter SIM network PUK.”
After I pressed skip I get this on the home drop down bar : “invalid SIM card. Network locked SIM cad inserted.”

    • Hello.
It looks like the phone is locked into a carrier. You had to call the cell phone carrier to unlock it. You can probably contact the seller and advice them that you got a carrier locked phone.

  • Hi. Got a Samsung Note8. It seems unlocked because I can switch call and text on any sim for Sim 1 and Sim 2 but Mobile data works for sim1 and sim2 slots with only for the carrier i bought it from but not with other carriers.

What can I do so I can use mobile data from another network aside from the network I got the phone from.

  • Привет! А если я не знаю на какой оператор заблокирован мой телефон,тогда что?

  • Hi! I hav samsung s6 korean variant. It works in the philippines.
But in other country like japan china U.S.A canada etc. It doesn’t work i can’t call and text… whats the problem of this phone… do you hav any idea on it… this is made from korea..

    • You have to check the transmission bands used for that country. For example, most USA phone work in Canada and vice versa because the telecom providers use similar bands, or the phones are produced to be compatible will all North American bands because that is where they will be sold. Perhaps the bands are different. Is it only text that doesn’t work? What about calls? The other option is to search online for the API of your service provider and manually enter that into your phone.

  • I have galaxy s6 it’s on voderfone I put sim pin wrong more than 5 times now that sim is permatly blocked now every time t I try new sim I get. Wrong sim No. what can I do pls. Col

  • I want to use my Samsung galaxy that I bought in the Netherlands also in Korea. Is there also a country lock that I need to unlock before it will work? or is removing only the sim lock enough?

    • If you can find a sticker on your phone’s box that has a message stating something like “Middle-Eastern SIM Card Only” or “European Model” where the region may differ, it most certainly means that your phone is Region Locked.

The Region Lock is not similar to the Network Lock. And the way to remove the Region Lock is by placing a 5-minute call (or receiving) while having inserted a SIM from the specific region the phone is locked.

  • Hi,

  • I have an s6 edge that I bought when I was living in Korea for a year and I was using the Korean
cellular provider KT. I’m back in the US and currently using an AT&T SIM card in the same phone and everything works perfectly. I’m planning on going to Japan for a month and I want to buy one of the local SIM cards there. I just wanted to know if it’s going to work so I don’t waste my time. Thank you for your help!

    • Hi Linden,

If your device was used on KT and then AT&T, it means that is unlocked and will work on Japan’s GSM networks.

The unlocking is permanent, therefore, if your device used two different carriers, it means is unlocked. So, you don’t need to place an unlocking order.

  • I have an S6 Edge from Atnt that when I got used on one my carriers in the Caribbean. However, after not using the phone for a while and putting in the same Carrier’s SIM it isn’t working again only on the other network from another Carrier.

    Kindly assist.

    • Hi Colson,

Does your device is asking for a network unlock code?

The unlock is permanent! In very rare situations the phone might ask again for the code after an upgrade.

If that happens, you just have to enter again the code.

  • Hi is there anyway to use settings to check if it’s locked and if locked to Vodafone can I go to a Vodafone store an asked for it to be unlocked ? It’s an s7 edge so I was wondering if it’s expensive to do

    • Dear Caroline,

The method describes how to check if your device is Network Locked. But it won’t specify the actual network.

The easiest way to do it is to insert a different SIM card from the one you think the device is locked.

For example, if you think your device is locked on Vodafone UK, try inserting an o2 or EE SIM card.

Another way to check is to look through your Apps and see if there is any network app such as Vodafone App, o2 App, T-Mobile App.

  • i have Samsung s6, recently i get unlocked by shopper.
my problem is that lte internet service working fine but i calling service not working.
    pls suggest the solution.

    • Hi Hitesh,

If the Mobile Internet Connection is working then there must be some Call Forwarding settings of APN settings that are not quite right.

I would suggest factory resetting the phone and check if it will work afterward.

Let me know how it goes!

  • Hi. Got a Samsung S7. I can switch sim for Sim 1 and Sim 2 but Mobile Data only works with the Sim of the Network I got the phone from.
What can I do so I can use mobile data from another network aside from the network I got the phone from.

    • Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, the vast majority of Dual-SIM phones have hardware limitations for the second slot and cannot use the Mobile Data at all, or with limitations to the 2G frequency.

Bottom line: You won’t be able to use the Mobile Data with SIM slot 2 regardless of unlocking the phone.

You might want to try to revert to an older version of the Android OS and check if the Mobile Data works afterward.

      Kind Regards!

  • hi Andrei,

good day, i have previous use an online company to unlock my samsung s6 edge, and after few months, suddenly one day the phone cannot register with the network but the sim card can be use in other phone.

do you know what happen to the phone?

    • Hello Kl Loo,

If the phone was unlocked successfully when the code was inserted it should have remained unlocked.

This is just a guess here, but if the phone was still financed and you stopped the monthly rates the previous Network Operator has the possibility to register your IMEI as Blacklisted. If this was the case, then your phone will not work with any SIM card and will deliver the message “Not Registered on Network”.

You can easily check this by inserting a SIM card from the operator that locked your phone in the first place and if it won’t connect you can be sure that your IMEI was registered as Blacklisted.

      Kind Regards,

  • I have Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime
    by dialing *#7465625#
I got massage – Not Registered on Network.
what does is means ? my phone is unlocked ?

    • Hello Suhail,

The best way to check if your phone is Network Locked is to insert a non-accepted SIM card and check if the phone will ask for the SIM Network Unlock PIN.

If your phone displayed the Not Registered on Network error message please make sure that the SIM card you are trying to use works in another factory unlocked phone because chances are it may be a SIM problem.

If you need further instructions or help please contact our customer support team at [email protected] and they will surely be able to help.

      Kind Regards!

  • I have a galaxy grand prime, kitkat version 4.4.4
Can I be able to upgrade it to lollipop version using odin software.

    • Hi Tonny,

If your phone cannot be upgraded by the classic standard method from the device’s settings menu, I do not recommend flashing a different ROM.

The unlocking codes will not work if the device has been tampered with and if a ROM was previously flashed.

The phone may work after you upgrade the software but you will not be able to unlock it because you have done changes to its initial factory settings.

      Kind Regards!
