How to check if your phone is Network Locked to T-Mobile USA

Not sure if your phone is Network Locked to T-Mobile USA? Find out!

You can easily find out if your phone is Network Locked to T-Mobile USA., First thing you’ll need a different SIM card (from a different network provider – NOT the T-Mobile USA one).

After acquiring the SIM Card you will need to:

  1. Insert the “non-accepted SIM card” in the phone (Please check if your new SIM Card is activated, if not contact your Mobile Operator in order to activate it)
  2. Wait for the phone to load
  3. Insert the SIM’s PIN code (4 digits), if asked.

Afterward, if your phone displays one of the following messages, then be sure that your device is Network Locked.

“SIM Network Unlock PIN” or “Network Locked”

The T-Mobile USA devices that have the release date before 1st June 2015 can only be unlocked by an unlocking code. Therefore, if your device is in this category, you will receive one or more unlocking codes that are unique to your device’s IMEI.

Please note that in this case, you will need a different carrier SIM card (Not T-Mobile) inserted into the phone when entering the codes.

“This device can be remotely unlocked if eligible. Please use the ‘Device Unlock Application’ to unlock the device”

All T-Mobile USA devices that have the release date after 1st June 2015 can only be unlocked through the Device Unlock App. For these handsets, unlocking codes are not necessary as there is no designated field in which to insert them.

The unlocking process is a bit different meaning your device’s IMEI will need to be registered as Unlocked/Eligible, in the T-Mobile USA database. And afterward, you are required to open the T-Mobile Device Unlock App and select the Permanent Unlock option.

Please note that in this case, the T-Mobile USA SIM card needs to be inserted into the phone whilst performing the unlocking process.

Your phone can be unlocked in both of the above-mentioned cases even if Metro PCS will tell you that you are required to wait for 90 days before the device is eligible for unlocking.
