What’s a Snapchat saver and how you can use one

Over the past years, Snapchat’s user base grew significantly and it’s now one of the most popular social networks around the world. Just think of how many of its competitors copied some features and it will be easier to understand its impact.

Yes, I’m talking about the idea of disappearing images, which is now present on Instagram or Facebook as well. Still, there are some moments when you actually want to keep those images, but, unfortunately, there’s no Snapchat saver function integrated into the app.

Basically, the only solution you have is to take a screenshot of the snap, but you have to be very fast since most snaps disappear after just a few seconds. In this case, what’s left to do?

Is there any way to save Snapchat photos and videos?

As mentioned above, you can take a screenshot of the snap. However, the sender will be noticed about this in the app, through a special icon. And some people don’t actually want this, for various reasons. But again, you have to do this before the snap expires.

Snapchat screenshot notification

If you don’t want to let the sender know that you’ve saved the snap, there are a few other ways you try to do this.

Save photos in Flight Mode

It’s almost the same thing as taking screenshots, except the fact that it involves setting the phone in Airplane Mode first. By this, the sender won’t be noticed by the network that you’ve captured the moment.

  • When you get a notification from Snapchat, turn the Airplane Mode on. All the communications features of your phone will be shut down, so you will be able to take the screenshot
  • Tap on the notification, in order to see the snap, and take the screenshot quickly
  • Log out of the app, using the settings menu
  • Close the app
  • Turn Flight Mode off
  • Open Snapchat again and log in. You will see that the snap you captured is still unopened and the sender doesn’t know you’ve made the screenshot

The biggest minus is that you don’t know if the snap you received is worth the effort, but at least you have a solution. And yes, we can call this a creative way to make your own Snapchat saver.

Record your phone’s screen

If you don’t want to rely on the previous trick to save snaps, there’s another alternative to this: recording your screen.

Depending on your mobile operating system, this feature is built in, on both iOS and Android. Basically, it acts as a Snapchat saver, since it records your entire activity. Here how you can use this:

iOS (11 and above)

  • Swipe up in order to open the Control Center and tap the icon from the bottom left corner. This will start screen recording

iOS 11 screen recording

  • Open the snap you just received and look at it for a few moments
  • Close the snap and go back to the Home screen
  • Launch the Control Center again and stop screen recording. The video will be saved to the Camera Roll
  • Open the video you just recorded and pause at the exact moment in which you viewed the snap
  • Take a screenshot
  • Voila, the snap will be saved in your phone’s Gallery

Android (5.0 Lollipop and above)

Even though the feature is also built-in on some phones, it can be a bit difficult to access it. Therefore, we will rely on an app: DU Recorder.

Simply install it and open it. Here, you will see all the steps you need to follow in order to record your screen. Otherwise, the procedure is similar to iOS.

  • After capturing it, open the video you just recorder and pause at the exact moment in which you viewed the snap
  • Take a screenshot
  • You will see the snap in your Gallery

Additionally, you can use Google Play Games for this, since it has an included video recording option as well.

  • Open Google Play Games
  • Look for the Record Gameplay option and tap on it
  • In the pop-up windows which appears, choose the resolution of your recording, then click Launch. This will start the game

Google Play Games screen recording

  • Look for a bubble in the bottom left of your screen, here, there is a Start button
  • Open Snapchat and go to the inbox
  • Press the Start button mentioned above to start recording
  • After getting through your snaps, you can stop the recording
  • You will get a notification that the video has been saved to your device
  • Open the video you just recorded and pause at the exact moment in which you viewed the snap
  • Take a screenshot
  • You will see the snap in your Gallery

Use a Snapchat saver app

Finally, you should also know that there are apps specially developed for this thing, available for both Android and iOS. Let’s see which are actually worth downloading.

SnapSave: Probably one of the most popular Snapchat saver-like apps, it works as a replacement for the social network. You log in using your account and it allows you to save snaps without getting noticed.

It’s available for iOS, while the Android version was removed in the meantime, but the APK is still available. It does have a few bugs, but, overall, it does the job.

Casper: Also an alternative Snapchat client, Casper lets you save images, videos, and stories. Without getting noticed, of course.

You can also use it to forward snaps to other users and use some custom filters. Unfortunately, it’s available just for Android.

SnapCrack: Finally, we have another great Snapchat saver app, which seemed to be very efficient at keeping received pictures and videos without the sender knowing.

SnapCrack is compatible with both iOS and Android and it lets you save snaps with just one tap, as well as forward them to other friends. The stickers and doodles are also present, but it has one big disadvantage: using it constantly might delist your account. Therefore, don’t rely on it that much and stick to saving just those snaps that matter a lot to you.

SnapBox: Designed just for iOS users, the app requires logging in with our Snapchat ID and password. After this, it works in a very simple way: everything you receive and share through the social network will be saved automatically on your phone.

Again, don’t overuse it, as your account can be affected or even deleted without prior notice.

SnapKeep: Last but not least on our list with Snapchat saver apps we have SnapKeep. We’re big fans of the clean and easy to use interface, which makes it one of the best apps of this type. It works for both Android and iOS and you will find a familiar look, so you won’t have any trouble using it.

The additional features, besides saving what you receive, include drawing doodles on your phone and applying some sticker. Pretty much like any other Snapchat saver. Speaking of similarities, using this one for too many times will also put you at risk of having your account deleted.
