Top 10 free VR games for Android to download in 2018

I guess that a lot of you agree with me if I say that Android is the platform allowing you to do a lot of things, without major investments.

Let’s take virtual reality, for example.

Everything you need, in order to try the latest VR games for Android, is a phone with decent specs and a cheap headset. Sure, you can opt for something more advanced, like a Gear VR and a gamepad, but you got the idea.

Still, things are a bit complicated when you look after some great VR games for Android to download. After all, the Play Store is loaded with titles, some of them being excellent, while others can be a bit deceiving…

Seriously, I remember trying a zombie shooter and I was pretty excited about the images and the description. Everything I had to do was turn around and look at zombies, so I can shoot them. No walking, no nothing.

In today’s post, we’re covering the ones which we consider ‘excellent’. To be more specific, we’ve put together a list of the best free VR games for Android. Because hey, you don’t want to spend your cash on games willy nilly, right?

Which are the best virtual reality games for Android?

It was harder than making Donald Trump stop using Twitter. But in the end, we finally managed to list the top 10 games that you should have on your Gear VR or any phone that supports Daydream or at least a Cardboard headset.

You can find all kinds of titles here, including the mandatory scary titles, shooters, as well as a couple of revamped versions of classic games. Hey, what better way to make people try a game than adding a bit of nostalgia to the recipe?

Let’s take a few moments and go through some of the coolest VR games for Android we found, shall we?

A Chair in a Room

The first entry in our top is definitely something creepy, but totally worth giving a shot. A Chair in a Room works even with Google Cardboard and it’s…how should we put this? A terrifying experience? Yes, this sounds good.

The entire game is taking place in the middle of a room, with a light and a chair at the table. Your character is looking at newspaper clippings, following the story of a kidnapped young girl. And guess what? The light starts flickering, so you have to rely just on a flashlight, with low battery. Then, some weird sounds begin.

Sounds like a pretty standard horror movie scenario, right? Well, it’s pretty close to that, except that fact that now you get to live the actual horror experience.

Warning: We couldn’t find the trailer, so this is the entire gameplay video. If you don’t want to ruin the experience, don’t watch it:

We don’t like to give spoilers, like one of my best friends did with the Breaking Bad season finale. Alex, if you’re reading this, I still hate you for that.

Chair in a Room is available for free on Google Play, as well as for the Samsung Gear VR.

Cyclops Duck Hunt

Get ready for something which will wake up your inner child! I must admit that it brought back a lot of memories, from the night I received my first NES and was fascinated by the included gun.

I know, it’s not one of the best VR games for Android in terms of graphics and storyline, but just the idea itself made me include it here.

Remember the classic Duck Hunt game on NES? This adds a whole new twist to it, but keeps the quirky charm. The idea is simple: you’re some kind of cyclops who must take down all the alien ducks who are invading the planet.

The trailer is here:

Sounds fun enough for you? It definitely is! And if you’re wondering if that dog keeps laughing at you, like in the classic version, when you’re missing a shot, we have some good news. He’s gone! Or at least we didn’t get to see him yet. I hope he’s not there. We’re not friends.

Cyclops Duck Hunt is available for free on Google Play.

Vanguard V

Ok, enough with the silly titles and let’s focus on a bit action packed virtual reality games for Android to download in 2018. And earlier, of course!

Vanguard V is a 3rd person shooter where you fly through space environments and make sure none of your enemies gets away. Sure, it may sound pretty basic at first, but it’s actually one of the best looking games we’ve seen lately.

Check it out here:

Even better, you don’t have to pay a single dime for it, with no in-app purchases either. If you own a Google Cardboard or if you’re luckier and got your hands on a Gear VR headset, go on and give it a try. Then, thank us later.

Vanguard V is available for free on Google Play, as well as for the Samsung Gear VR.

Twilight Pioneers

Not once we said that it really doesn’t matter how good a game looks if the storyline is simply captivating.Well, this goes for Twilight Pioneers as well, except it has stunning graphics!

This Google Daydream- exclusive game is one remarkable title, mixing great narrative, boss battles, and some beautiful visual effects. And by boss battles, we mean really challenging moments, which made me use some nasty words once. Ok, twice. OK! I did it for a few times!

Curious to see how good it looks? Make sure you don’t miss the trailer:

If you ask us, it’s one of those virtual reality apps for Android which makes worth getting a Daydream View headset. Oh, and it keeps getting updates pretty often, which make the overall gaming experience better.

Twilight Pioneers is available for free on Google Play, exclusively for the Daydream platform.

Proton Pulse

Did we tell you that we have some revamps in this top? Well, this is another one.

Developed by the same team behind Vanguard V, Proton Pulse is a modern interpretation of Breakout. Yes, ladies and gents, you’re looking at a pure arcade game here, but in virtual reality.

The thing about Proton Pulse is that it even has – in some way or another – a backstory, which makes playing it even more interesting. Otherwise, it features intuitive controls and some cool graphics, which combined with the well-chosen audio effects make it one of the best VR games for Android to download in this very moment.

This is how awesome this game looks:

It looks like developers are getting very good at revamping old game ideas and adding a bit of virtual reality flavor, isn’t it?

Proton Pulse is available for free on Google Play, as well as for the Samsung Gear VR.

Insidious VR

I must tell you a secret: I had trouble sleeping after seeing the movie for the first time. What? These things happen, you know? And don’t judge me, you’re not my mom.

If you know the movie, you surely remember the nature and the entire plot. And if you’re a fan, now’s your chance to have the same horror experience, but in virtual reality.

The entire Insidious VR experience starts with the tour guide presenting the house, but you two aren’t alone over there. Add some spooky voices and sound effects and you will at least squeak for once, making it one of the best VR horror games. Just make sure nobody is looking at you, ok?

This is more than just a trailer, so watch at your own risk, if you want to avoid spoilers:

This last piece of advice would’ve been very helpful for me, while testing the game. No, I have to deal with some people threatening to make a short video public. Ah, the things I do for virtual reality.

Insidious VR is available for free on Google Play, as well as for the Samsung Gear VR.

BattlezVR

I don’t know how it works for you guys, but when I think of virtual reality games, I automatically picture a zombie game. You just can’t ignore this, since it’s one of the most popular formats! Considering this, our top with the best VR games for Android to download in 2018 would’ve been incomplete without a title like BattlezVR.

So, in a nutshell, we’re looking at a first-person zombie shooter, with some additional dragons, just because the developers could add them. Otherwise, we don’t know their exact purpose…

Check out some multiplayer action:

Even though the action is basic, your main purpose being to shoot down zombies, we really like the fact that it has an online mode. Yep, multiplayer virtual reality is happening, sooner than we were actually expecting. Let that sink in for a bit.

Insidious VR is available for free on Google Play, as well as for the Samsung Gear VR.

Face your Fears

Oh, hi there! Did anybody ask for another virtual reality horror experience? Ok, say no more! And get ready for something based on the best shows ever! Hint: it’s a Netflix exclusive.

We’re talking about Stranger Things, of course, the show whose world you can explore in the game, but be warned: you’re not safe. Creatures from the Upside Down are creeping around in the dark, trying to attack you! The bad part is that you don’t have Eleven with you, so it’s a bit dangerous.

Ok, so we couldn’t find just the trailer, but there are a lot of videos with the entire experience. You can check it out here, at least just for a few minutes, before trying it yourself:

The game has the basic level, taking place in Hawkins, like the season 2 of series, but you can buy other levels, even more terrifying.

Face your Fears is available for the Samsung Gear VR.

Lego Brickheadz Builder VR

When I was just a kid, I kept asking for LEGO a few years in a row for Christmas. Until one year, when Santa left me a letter, saying that I’m too old for toys. Prick…

Nowadays, I can buy my own LEGO or, even more, I can play with bricks in virtual reality!

The idea behind the game is simple: you can unlock new bricks by completing formulas in the big golden book or check out your figures interacting. But this is not all, since you can also customize, freebuild or use patterns to create items for your Brickheadz.

Check out a gameplay clip:

Yes, I know, it’s actually a pretty simple game, but it can become pretty addictive. And come on, nobody is ever too old for LEGO! I would spend hours playing this! Well, not hours, since virtual reality can drain a pretty big amount of battery life.

LEGO Brickheadz VR is available for free on Google Play, exclusively for the Daydream platform.

Fantastic Beasts

To conclude our list with VR games for Android to download in 2018, we have something which will sound very appealing to all Harry Potter fans. But this isn’t a condition to enjoy Fantastic Beasts, since it’s an incredibly immersive and fun experience.

The game is based on the latest movie in the series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, and yes, it allows you to step into the wonderful wizarding world.

Ever imagined how taking a Herbology lesson looks like? How about interacting with magical creatures? Just put your Daydream View on and start exploring!

Take a look at the trailer here:

Fantastic Beasts is available for free on Google Play, exclusively for the Daydream platform.

P.S.: If you own a Gear VR and want to play some of the Google Play-exclusive games presented here, there’s no need to be blue, because it’s not impossible.

Anybody with Samsung’s virtual reality headset can download games outside of the Oculus Store. Full details can be found on this Reddit thread.
